The Leicester Tigers are a premier force in English rugby. Founded in 1880, this venerable club has established itself as a powerhouse in Premiership Rugby, the top tier of English rugby union. The team calls the historic Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium, located in the heart of Leicester, their home since 1892. Known affectionately by their nickname “Tigers,” a moniker from 1885, the club embodies a fierce competitive spirit.

Under the leadership of head coach Dan McKellar, who took the helm in the summer of 2023, the Tigers continue to build on their rich legacy. In the 2022–23 season, the Tigers finished 3rd in the Premiership, securing a spot in the 2023–24 European Rugby Champions Cup. This position underscores their consistent performance and competitiveness on both domestic and international stages.

Leicester Tigers boast an impressive trophy cabinet with 21 major titles. They clinched the European Championship twice consecutively, in 2001 and 2002, and have won a record 11 English Championships. Their success extends to the RFU Knockout Cups, with five victories and three Anglo-Welsh Cups, the most recent being in 2017. The club’s recent triumph in the 2022 Premiership Rugby title and nine consecutive Premiership finals appearances from 2005 to 2013 highlight their dominance in the sport.

Leicester’s resilience is also notable, as they are one of only three teams never to have been relegated from the top division. Their European campaigns have been equally formidable, with five finals appearances, securing them a joint-second most overall. The Tigers’ rich history, competitive edge, and never-say-die attitude make them a central figure in rugby union, continuing to inspire and attract fans worldwide.
