It’s nearing the end of another busy week here at BE. Today, Andy has had a trip to Alexandra Palace in London with 100’s hired trestle tables before driving over to the Olympic Village to fetch one of seven artic loads of new furniture we have purchased.
The other six trucks have been arriving throughout the day. Our team of van drivers have had another busy week with Table and Chair hire in Leicester, Nottingham and the Midlands with furniture hire at local schools, colleges and councils. We have a truck full of wooden picnic benches in Wales and more heading to Rutland Water this weekend.
Unsure about what tables to hire, see out table hire guide or contact our hire team directly.
Alexandra Palace
Alexandra Palace, affectionately known as “Ally Pally,” is a historic entertainment and sports venue in North London. Nestled between Wood Green and Muswell Hill in the London Borough of Haringey, this Grade II listed building has been a recreation, education, and entertainment venue since its opening in 1873. Although a devastating fire two weeks post-opening led to its reconstruction, Alexandra Palace has continually evolved to serve the public, echoing its original purpose as “The People’s Palace.”
Over the years, Alexandra Palace has played a pioneering role in the media industry, notably leasing space to the BBC in 1935 for the first regular public television service the following year. This marked the beginning of the 405-line monochrome analogue television broadcasts, setting a historical milestone in electronic television. While newer facilities have since taken precedence, the Palace’s contribution to television technology remains significant, with original studios and equipment still preserved on-site.
Today, Alexandra Palace offers many facilities and events, making it a versatile venue for concerts, exhibitions, and conferences. The site includes a recently restored Victorian theatre removed from the English Heritage’s Buildings at Risk register alongside modern amenities such as an ice rink, pub, and a panoramic view of central London. The surrounding Alexandra Park has been designated a local nature reserve and is a cherished green space for community recreation and conservation.
Easily accessible by rail, underground, and bus services, Alexandra Palace continues to stand as a monumental part of London’s cultural and historical landscape, offering a unique blend of past and present for visitors worldwide.
